According to a report by Politico, Conservative GOP lawmakers have been plotting to remove Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for weeks and have been putting the finishing touches on an impeachment filing.
Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus Mark Meadows, had the impeachment document on the floor of the House at the same time that Rosenstein spoke to reporters and TV cameras on Friday.
Conservative GOP lawmakers have been preparing to remove Rosenstein for weeks, saying he has been slow-walking their probe of FBI agents accused of bias against President Donald Trump.
Conservative sources say that they could file the impeachment document as soon as Monday, as Meadows and Freedom Caucus founder Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) look to build more Republican support in the House.
“It has not been filed today,” is all that MarkMeadows spokesman Ben Williamson would tell us. Williamson declined to rule out whether Meadows intended to file the document next week.
Republicans may also try to hold Rod Rosenstein in contempt of Congress if they want to go a step before impeachment.
