Trump has hit back at Nancy Pelosi after the US House Speaker accused the US President of “racist attacks” against African-American Democrat Elijah Cummings.
President Trump called out the Democrats saying they are playing the “race card” after the President was condemned for calling Elijah Cummings’s Baltimore district a “disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess”.
Following the comments from the president, Pelosi confused on the context of Trump’s remarks responded describing Cummings as “a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore, and deeply valued colleague”. She added: “We all reject racist attacks against him and support his steadfast leadership.”
President Trump had to explain the obvious fact that he was talking only about Elijah Cumming’s district and clearly not about the Democrat’s race.
Trump explained his comments were not racist and insisted he was referring to the “very poor job” Mr. Cummings has done in the district.
“Someone please explain to Nancy Pelosi, who was recently called racist by those in her own party, that there is nothing wrong with bringing out the very obvious fact that Congressman Elijah Cummings has done a very poor job for his district and the City of Baltimore.”
He added: “Just take a look, the facts speak far louder than words! The Democrats always play the Race Card, when in fact they have done so little for our Nation’s great African American people.
President Trump urged his critics to take a look at the facts and pointed to his record on employment for African-Americans in the US.
“Now, the lowest unemployment in U.S. history, and only getting better. Elijah Cummings has failed badly!”
