Marianne Williamson falls for fake story that President Trump pardoned Charles Manson

2 min read

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson fell for a fake news article which claimed President Trump had pardoned cult leader Charles Manson.

Taking to Twitter Williamson told her 2.8million followers: ‘There is something deeply sinister about Trump pardoning Charles Manson, even posthumously.

‘Dog whistles of the very worst possible kind.’

Manson, who died in 2017, led his cult ‘family’ to commit a series of murders, torturing and stabbing nine people to death including actress Sharon Tate, and plotted to start a race war.

An article claiming President Trump had pardoned Manson, who was noted for a tattoo of a swastika on his forehead, appeared on satire website on November 16, according to The New York Post.

It was then picked up by the left-wing blog site Daily Kos, leading many to believe Williamson was duped by the fake story.

The Democrat and “spiritual leader” was alerted to her mistake by her followers and quickly issued an apology, saying: ‘Glad to have been wrong.’

But she then deleted both the original tweet and the apology.

Not only was the Manson story fake but Trump would not be able to pardon Manson because he was convicted of California state criminal charges, and the president can only pardon federal crimes.
