During another Coronavirus task force briefing on Monday, President Trump hit out at ABC’s Jon Karl.
The Coronavirus task force briefing got heated when Karl pressed President Trump about an inspector general’s report about a backlog of coronavirus tests at hospitals. The president had asked another journalist to tell him the name of the inspector general, and Karl identified the official as Christi Grimm, principal deputy IG at the Department of Health and Human Services.
The president then asked when Grimm was appointed, and Karl said she had taken her current post under Trump.
The president persisted, asking, “How long has that person served in government?” Karl said he didn’t know.
However, not long after the President said that, Karl returned to the subject and told Trump that Grimm “did serve in the previous administration.”
“Oh! You didn’t tell me that,” President Trump said. “She did serve in the previous administration… you mean the Obama administration. See, there’s a typical fake news deal.”
He continued, “You are a third rate reporter and what you just said is a disgrace… you will never make it.”
The president dismissed the inspector general report as “just wrong” for claiming there were “severe” shortages of medical supplies and coronavirus tests.
