The Australian Government says they hope the COVIDSafe app will slow the spread of coronavirus by using Bluetooth connections to trace who infected people came into close contact with. And they want EVERYONE to download it.
Despite the constant problems with the COVIDSafe app and not to mention the Government having access to everything and all your movements, more than 3.5 million people have downloaded and registered for the contact tracing app, which was launched on Sunday, April 26.
Chief medical officer Brendan Murphy egged on more people to sign up, with the number of people on board apparently not enough to make the scheme effective. In other words, they want everyone.
‘We need the app uptake to be higher before we can say that the final piece in the jigsaw puzzle of contact tracing is there,’ he said.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in what seems to be an attempt to bribe Aussies, said getting back to the pub would be relying on people signing up for the tracing app.
Morrison said Australia’s virus measures were tracking well, meeting 11 of the 15 conditions of the Pandemic Health Intelligence Plan which is the powers that be who are guiding the relaxation of Australia’s shutdown rules.
However one of the conditions that had apparently not been met was the uptake rate of the contact tracing app.
So far it has been downloaded over 3 million times but health officials and the federal government are complaining it’s not enough, with them wanting millions more to register.
The COVIDSafe app, which tracks and allegedly helps quash new outbreaks, is being pushed as the nation’s ticket to freedom.
And when asked how soon Australians could go back to the pub, Morrison said getting back to the pub would be relying on people signing up for the app.
‘Now if that isn’t an incentive for Australians to download COVIDSafe on a Friday, I don’t know what is,’ he said.
But the COVIDSafe app’s tracing capability is not yet operational.
The information gathered by the app cannot yet be passed onto state and territory health officials as it is in the process of being finalized.
‘The rules on privacy are being finalized, along with final IT testing,’ a Department of Health spokesman said in a statement to the ABC.
‘The system will be operational next week ahead of the decision on possible easing of restrictions.’
However, according to PM Scott Morrison restrictions won’t be eased until the Government has everyone onboard their tracing scheme.
If this isn’t an abuse of power, I don’t know what is.
