Nine News Australia is reporting that an 88-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman were given the wrong dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Both seniors are from the Holy Spirit Nursing Home in Carseldine in Brisbane.
The two aged care residents had been given 4x the recommended dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
The 88-year-old man is currently receiving treatment in hospital and neither of them has had adverse effects yet, according to reports.
It’s unclear what treatment the elderly man is receiving.
It’s understood that the doctor contracted by the Federal Government used the entire vial of the Pfizer vaccine. He has since been temporarily stood down from administering further vaccines.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is expected to provide further details on the incident in the coming hours.
Queensland began its rollout of the vaccine on Monday with 1000 people expected to recieve the jab by the end of the week.
The government has set an ambitious target of 125,000 people to be vaccinated by early April starting with frontline medical and hotel quarantine staff and the elderly.
