Pfizer Inc and its German partner BioNTech SE have asked the FDA to expand emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccine to include kids between ages five and 11.
The Pfizer vaccine was originally authorized for use by the FDA in December 2020, but it was only for those aged 16 and older, then eventually was expanded to those aged 12 and older in May.
In response to Pfizer’s request, the FDA has scheduled a meeting to discuss the matter on October 26.
Officials are expected to make a decision – which will make 28 million kids eligible in the US – between Halloween and Thanksgiving.
