Ronald McDonald House Charities in British Columbia and Yukon announced its intent to relocate unvaccinated residents by the end of the month.
Ronald McDonald House Charities in British Columbia and Yukon said on Wednesday it would move children and families under its care to alternate housing if they are not vaccinated against COVID-19 by Jan. 31. Some of the listed alternatives included hotels or similar charity facilities, according to CityNews.
“We appreciate that this policy will impact those who have made a decision not to vaccinate however, the overall health and welfare of all our residents is our primary concern,” a statement from the charity read.
Ronald McDonald House sent letters to its resident families informing them of the mandate on Monday. One father who said he received the letter posted a video to Facebook purportedly showing him confronting charity staff over the mandate.
Austin Furgason, who said his 4-year-old son has leukemia, called the mandate “some kind of crazy evil like I’ve never seen in my life.”
A fundraiser on GoFundMe for the father and his wife, identified as Austin and Lindsay Furgason, was started shortly after the video was uploaded. As of Wednesday, it has raised $73,623 for their son’s cancer treatment.
