Super Mario Bros. movie totally crushed it at the box office this weekend, making $204.6 million in the US and a crazy $377 million worldwide in just five days! That’s a new record for the biggest opening weekend ever for an animated film, beating Frozen II.
Even though some critics weren’t too keen on it, mainly because of their hatred for Chris Pratt, audiences loved it and gave it an A rating on CinemaScore. That means the movie’s likely to keep bringing in crowds and make even more money in the weeks to come.
It’s pretty impressive considering that the last time they made a Mario movie back in ’93, it was a total flop. But now, three decades later, it looks like Mario’s back and here to stay. In fact, it’s probably going to be the start of a new movie franchise!
2023 is turning out to be a huge year for movies based on video games. First, we got Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and now Super Mario Bros. Looks like we’re in for some serious gaming action on the big screen.
Let’s-a go!
