A shooting took place on Saturday night in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen, resulting in one person being injured. The incident reportedly started as a sidewalk argument that soon escalated into gunfire, prompting both tourists and pedestrians to flee for safety. Video footage of the incident was obtained by both the police and The Post.
According to the New York Post, the shooting took place at around 5:45 p.m. on West 46th Street near 9th Avenue, when the attacker approached one of the victims and fired shots. The video footage captured two men in jackets, one black and one blue, arguing on the sidewalk outside a Japanese restaurant. As the dispute continued, the man in the blue jacket turned away in frustration, and the man in black can be heard saying, “What’s up, n—a,” before gunshots rang out.
In the video, the man in black is seen holding what appears to be a gun at point-blank range and firing, while pedestrians scramble for cover. One witness described how a person carrying luggage ducked into the restaurant’s doorway, while a woman in the line of fire attempted to get out of the way. The attacker then fled the scene.
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Shaquille Bailey, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the shoulder and hip and was taken to Mount Sinai West Hospital for treatment. Another victim was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital by friends, and their condition is currently unknown.
Detectives investigating the incident were seen examining surveillance footage from a nearby smoke shop. One witness who works at a juice shop near the scene described the shooting as “terrifying” and recounted how they locked the door and ran to the back of the store when they heard the gunshots.
