A town hall meeting hosted by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) took a turn on Friday, as the event descended into chaos with confrontations and interruptions from some of her constituents. The incident, which involved heated exchanges and derogatory remarks, was captured on video by Freedom News TV, providing a glimpse into the tense atmosphere of the gathering.
As the congresswoman was approached by a man waving small American flags, he shouted, “American citizens before migrants! You’re a piece of s–t!” The incident marked the beginning of a series of disruptions throughout the town hall. Despite the hostile encounter, Ocasio-Cortez laughed off the incident and simply responded with an “OK,” as security escorted the man out.
Protesters at the event expressed their discontent with Ocasio-Cortez’s stances on various issues. One woman, as she was being ushered out of the auditorium in Corona, shouted, “Stop funding this war! There’s a lot of communities that need help and need that money!” Signs held up by constituents bore messages such as “America First. Vetted legal migrants only,” “Stop funding Ukraine,” “AOC: An Obvious Criminal,” and “AOC: Stop pushing drag queen story hour.”
During the town hall, Ocasio-Cortez voiced her support for US funding for Ukraine in its fight against invading Russian forces. She also expressed her views on the border crisis and her support for raising the debt ceiling. These positions drew both boos and cheers from the crowd. At one point, the congresswoman stated her belief that the Biden administration should abolish the debt limit, which prompted a man to shout, “$100 billion for Ukraine that you voted for!” Another individual, visibly enraged by the man’s objection to Ukraine funding, shouted, “It is not your turn! How about you wait your turn.” In response, someone from the crowd retorted, “Freedom of speech.”
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s town halls have gained a reputation for attracting somewhat hostile crowds, characterized by heckling and frequent interruptions. Last year, a group of protesters with hand drums crashed one of her town halls, chanting “AOC has got to go,” and prevented her from addressing her constituents for several minutes. In a surprising move, the congresswoman danced along to the beat, seemingly unperturbed by the chants calling for her removal from office.
Overall, the Queens town hall hosted by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was marked by tense moments and confrontations. Despite facing derogatory remarks and interruptions, the congresswoman still engaged with the audience throughout the event.
