Trump lawyer John Lauro clashed repeatedly with CNN “State of the Union” anchor Dana Bash during an interview Sunday over the criminal investigation into Jan. 6.
Lauro, who represents former President Donald Trump, dismissed the probe as a “political witch hunt.” When Bash pressed him for evidence to back up that claim, Lauro grew agitated.
Bash began the interview by asking Lauro about new details that have emerged regarding Trump’s actions around Jan. 6. Lauro responded, “This is a political witch hunt. There is nothing there.”
Bash countered, “You say it’s a political witch hunt. What evidence do you have of that?”
Lauro replied, “The evidence is that there is no evidence. After a year and a half, if there was evidence, it would be out by now.”
Bash continued to push Lauro, asking, “Aren’t there still documents and witnesses yet to be uncovered?”
Lauro shot back, “Dana, you’re missing the point. There is no there there.”
As the interview went on, Lauro became increasingly frustrated, accusing Bash and CNN of being “obsessed” with Jan. 6 and having an “agenda.”
Bash responded, “I’m just doing my job of asking tough questions of people in power. That’s what journalists do.”
