These are the facts surrounding the arrest and charges against Kevin Tomafsky, a former aide to Chris Christie, in a deeply concerning case involving child exploitation.
Kevin Tomafsky, a former aide to ex-New Jersey Governor and presidential candidate Chris Christie, was indicted in July and arrested on August 15, 2023. He was charged in connection with disturbing allegations involving a six-year-old girl.
Kevin Tomafsky, aged 41, was a long-term Republican campaign operative in New Jersey before Christie hired him to work in his office in 2010. He also served as a campaign manager for former Congressman Frank LoBiondo and held a position in the state’s Department of Labor until his resignation.
Tomafsky faces multiple serious charges, including:
- Engaging in sexual conduct with a child.
- Conspiracy to endanger the welfare of a child.
- Permitting a child to engage in pornography.
- Possession of child pornography.
As of now, Tomafsky is being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility in Mannington, New Jersey.
The investigation into Tomafsky began when Snapchat alerted authorities to an incident of child pornography. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children became involved in the case. Prosecutors were able to obtain Snapchat records via a warrant, which allegedly revealed a disturbing image of a child being forced into oral sex by an adult.
A State Superior Court judge authorized a search warrant for Tomafsky’s home in Sewell Township, where he resides with his mother. This warrant was executed on December 14, resulting in the discovery of nearly 1,000 items described as child sex abuse materials.
Charges Against the Victim’s Father: Another individual, believed to be the victim’s father, has also been charged in this case. The charges against him include “knowingly committing the act of sexual penetration on the six-year-old and photographing a child engaging in a sex act.”
During Chris Christie’s first term as governor of New Jersey, Tomafsky worked in the scheduling office. He was known to be a dedicated member of the team, as evidenced by his statement: “I am 100 percent on Team Christie, and I want to make sure that I do all that I can to serve him in the best way possible.”
At Christie’s recommendation, Tomafsky was hired by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as a government and community relations representative. In this capacity, he was tasked with government and community relations representation. In this capacity, he managed surrogate appearances for Christie at various events.
Tomafsky’s Facebook page indicates that he worked for the state of New Jersey from 2016, coinciding with Christie’s second term. Although his Facebook profile suggested he left the job in 2019, he remained listed in the state’s employee directory as of Friday.
