Hunter Biden Faces Firearms Charges Amidst Ongoing Investigations
Hunter Biden has been indicted by special counsel David Weiss on three counts related illegal possession of firearms while addicted to drugs. These charges, which carry a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, mark the first legal action taken by Weiss in his special counsel role and come on the heels of a failed plea deal involving Hunter’s attorneys during a public court hearing in July.
These new charges have emerged just two days after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced an impeachment inquiry into President Biden’s potential involvement in his family’s international business dealings, with a particular focus on Hunter and his brother, James Biden. The inquiry aims to obtain bank records from various members of the Biden family, including the sitting president.
At the heart of the charges against Hunter Biden is the allegation that he knowingly concealed his addiction to crack cocaine when purchasing a firearm in 2018. This indictment is a significant development in the ongoing legal saga surrounding the president’s son, especially considering the collapse of a plea deal earlier this year.
