On Saturday, two police officers from Wisconsin were fatally shot during a traffic stop.
The incident occurred in the village of Cameron, Wisconsin, and was initiated by a Chetek Police officer just before 3:40 p.m. local time. The driver of the vehicle involved in the stop exchanged gunfire with the officers, resulting in the death of the Chetek Police officer and a Cameron Police officer. The shooter was also injured and transported to a hospital, where they later died.
We currently do not know who the shooter is.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice has confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation is being led by the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, with support from several other law enforcement agencies.
Once concluded, the investigative reports will be submitted to the Barron County District Attorney. The Hudson Police Department, Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, Milwaukee Fire Honor Guard, and Village of East Troy Police Department have all expressed their condolences on social media.
